I have begun a new series of paintings inspired by several books I began reading several years ago. The first books are the Cort of Thorns and Roses series — and the second group of books are the Fourthwings series. These books are filled with stories of fairy realms, elves, ancient forests, and lots of magical fantasy.
The paintings come about from how I saw the images in these stories and wanting to see the magical forests brought to life on my canvas. Many of the paintings also have a Lord of the Rings feel to them — with tiny doors in huge trees, and dragons and faeries hiding throughout the forest.
Cheryl lives on a small farm in eastern Monroe county where she gets much of her painting inspiration. Dogs, cats horses and beautiful countryside are part of daily life. I paint in oils now, in a style that can be called whimsical realism. I also do paintings from my travels to Florida, Colorado and Oregon.
